NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

MATTRESS FUNDRAISER PARENT/GUARDIAN MEETING: Tomorrow, October 1st at 6 p.m. in the RCPAC. Students receive 1 hour of band personal time if a parent/guardian attends in-person, or 30 minutes if a parent/guardian attends via Facebook live. Sorry, kiddos. No extra time is awarded should more than one parent/guardian report to the meeting.
STUDENT-LEADERSHIP MEETING: Student-leadership will meet on Tuesday from 7:00-7:29 a.m. in the RCPAC room. All other members (those not in a leadership role) have a report time of 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1st.
HONORS WIND CHAMBER ENSEMBLE: Opening auditions to fill up to four vacancies for the 2024-25 Honors Wind Chamber Ensemble. This ensemble meets during the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th terms from 7:00-7:50 a.m. Auditions will be held on October 7-13th. Message Mr. Jones for more details.
ROBINSON COMPETITION AAR: I have assigned the Robinson Competition judges' comments as an assignment. You need only listen to two judges (one visual, and one music). I had originally not intended to assign an AAR to this event, but I come to the conclusion that it would be good for everyone to hear the comments. Drumline, pick the percussion judge instead of a music judge. Color guard, select the auxiliary judge's comments instead of music. The assignment is due before Friday at 11:59 p.m.
THE PRESIDENT'S OWN: The United States Marine Band (arguably one of the best performing concert bands in the world) performs Sunday, 6 Oct Urbana, IL at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign at 3 p.m. The following students submitted an RSVP: Parker, Ethan Z., Jasper, Jereme, Maddison, and Luke S. Students would need to provide only dinner money.
DRUMLINE PERFORMANCE: Drumline performance for the boys soccer senior night is October 7th. The call-time is 3:15 p.m. in the RCHS band room. The location is currently at the middle school; however, it may be moved to OCC. The performance time is 4 p.m. Performers will be back by 5 p.m.
RCHS, ERHS, & WRHS BAND ALUMNI NIGHT: The Band Alumni Night game has been moved to October 18th. To attend, all they need to do is fill out the form by clicking HERE. The form is embedded within the webpage.
LUNCH: The music department is open for lunch this week.

We have a Socktember update to give you today. Currently, our seniors and sophomores are in the lead. Socketember will end at 3:00 PM today. Remember, the winning classes have to have collected at least 100 items for their 1 hour lunch.
Your Marching Tigers competed in the 2024 Newton Marching Band Classic in Newton this past Saturday. The Marching Tigers took home 3rd Place in class 3A, and ranked 5th out of 10 bands.
We have some GRIT winners to announce this morning. We need the following students to find Coach VanDyke in the commons after announcements: Tiger pats on the back go to Owen Cycholl, Brielle Seiler, Ethan McLaughlin, Addie McLaughlin, Judah Dicks, Kayden Hannel, Stella Curtis, and Addalyn Runyon.

- Our Tiger Soccer squad will lock paws with Mt. Zion at RCMS at 5:00 PM.
- Our Lady Tiger Tennis teams will be on the road to Paris.

Today is Monday folks - you all know what this means?? That’s right, it’s time for the word of the day sponsored by Laren “John Deere” Erwin. Today’s word is kerfuffle. According to Merriam Webster, Kerfuffle means a disturbance or commotion typically caused by a dispute or conflict. There was quite a kerfuffle that occured last night when everyone found out that the St. Louis Cardinals did not make the playoffs this year.

We are running a modified Homecoming Parade schedule today. There is no OTA or OTE today. You will report to blocks 1 through 4. Lunch will be at 11:15. After lunch, you will report to your OTA class for attendance. There will be a pep assembly and then we will get ready for our parade. The golden chariots will be here at 1:54 for departure.
Homecoming week continues!! In honor of Home Sweet Homecoming, we are celebrating Extreme Spirit Day today. Tomorrow is Rolo Pajama Day. Please make sure your PJ’s are school appropriate.
We have a Socktember update to give you all this morning. As of now, the Sophomores and Seniors are leading with 24 items. Our Freshmen and Juniors have 6 items. We will need at least 100 items to justify the one hour lunch. Happy Soctember!!
Voting for Homecoming King and Queen is open today and closes today at 2:00pm. Check your email to vote!
The RCHS Book Club will meet today during lunch in the library.
Students, make sure you take some time to stop by the Library Terrace commons. Get your pictures taken in front of the awesome backdrop.
Our Tiger and Lady Tiger golfers were in action yesterday. Our Tigers finished in 2nd place in LIC action. We were just 4 shots from the crown. Tiger pats on the back go to Ayden Nealis as he was crowned LIC champ. This is the 4th year in a row that we have had a tournament champ. Ayden was 2 under par yesterday - folks, that’s some excellent shootin’. Reese Glover finished in 3rd place, Carsyn Ameter grabbed 21st place, Carter Blank took 25th place, Austin Smith and Brody Thomas tied for 39th place.
Our Lady Tigers were also in conference action yesterday. Our Lady Tigers claimed 3rd place for the conference tournament. Tiger roars go to Emma Hefferman as she finished in 11th place overall. Mallory Richardson grabbed 12th place, Savannah Ferguson took 13th place, Katelyn Bookhout claimed 14th place, Addalyn Runyon finished in 15th place, and Aubrie Weidner finished in 22nd place.
Powder Puff action did not disappoint last night. Our Senior and Junior ladies battled in the rough, tough conditions last night. Juniors got off to a fast start but it was the seniors who claimed victory 14 to 13. Great competition and an awesome atmosphere!!!

MATTRESS FUNDRAISER PARENT/GUARDIAN MEETING: October 1st at 6 p.m. in the RCPAC. Students receive 1 hour of band personal time if a parent/guardian attends in-person, or 30 minutes if a parent/guardian attends via Facebook live. Sorry, kiddos. No extra time is awarded should more than one parent/guardian report to the meeting.

THE PRESIDENT'S OWN: The United States Marine Band (arguably one of the best performing concert bands in the world) performs Sunday, 6 Oct Urbana, IL at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign at 3 p.m. If there is enough interest, we would leave at noon and return around 8 p.m. Students would need to provide only dinner money. Fill out the interest form by clicking HERE if you would like to attend. -RSVP CLOSED AT 9/25 AT 4 P.M.-
DRUMLINE PERFORMANCE: Drumline performance for the boys soccer senior night is October 7th. The call-time is 3:15 p.m. in the RCHS band room. The location is currently at the middle school; however, it may be moved to OCC. The performance time is 4 p.m. Performers will be back by 5 p.m.
THURSDAY'S SCHEDULE: Wednesday is a 2 p.m. dismissal.

Homecoming week continues!! In honor of Home Sweet Homecoming, we are celebrating Freedom Pops today. It’s truly amazing to sit back and reflect on those who have and are making sacrifices for our country so we can celebrate our many freedoms!! Tomorrow is Rolo Pajama Day. Please make sure your PJ’s are school appropriate.
Voting for Homecoming King and Queen opens today and closes tomorrow at 2:00pm. Check your email to vote!
Seniors, today is OCC Blue Preview Day. Buses will be here to pick you up at 11:00 AM. Please ask your OTA teacher who your chaperone is for the day.
The sock and toy drive continues this week. It’s the Seniors and Sophomores against the Juniors and Freshmen. Bring in new or cleaned used toys and brand new adult socks every day this week. The winner will receive a one hour lunch. Please place your items in the marked boxes in the hallway by the office. We don’t have many items as of now. We need multiple items donated so the winning classes can earn the 1 hour lunch.
Students, make sure you take some time to stop by the Library Terrace commons every day this week and take a picture in front of the Yearbook's backdrop!! It’s really awesome if you haven’t seen it yet.

Our Lady Tiger Volleyball teams were in action last night. Our JV squad took down Mattoon last night 18 to 25, 25 to 17, 15 to 8. Our varsity squad competed hard but came up a bit short. Tiger pats on the back go to our Lady Tigers:
- Taylor Bloomer had 2 aces, 9 assists, and 9 digs
- Jillian Bettis had 1 ace, 3 kills, and 6 digs
- Nora Stevens had 1 ace, 1 assist, and 8 digs
Tiger shout outs go to the senior boys as they took down our junior boys last night in volleyball action. Our faculty and staff came up a weeeee bit short as the seniors were crowned champs last night.
Tiger good luck roars go to our Tiger and Lady Tiger golf squads as they tee it up in Mt. Carmel today for LIC conference tournament play. Bring home some hardware.

This is Homecoming week!! We are celebrating Skittles Class Color Day today. Be on the lookout for activities this entire week. First off, the OTE Community Service Class will host a sock and toy drive this entire week. That’s right, it’s the Seniors and Sophomores against the Juniors and Freshmen. Bring in new or cleaned used toys and brand new adult socks next week. The winner will receive a one hour lunch. Happy Soctember!!!
As you can tell, the hallways are looking quite festive this morning. It’s hallway decorating and door decorating time.
Please listen carefully to announcements all week this week. Our Student Council is hosting daily trivia. One super smart person will win a free Homecoming Ticket to the dance this Friday upon submitting the correct answer. What if the winner already has a ticket?? Good question. He or she will be reimbursed for their ticket purchase. The trivia will be at the end of announcements.
Tonight, we have dodgeball in the Aux Gym starting at 6:30 PM. Everyone is welcome to join!
Tomorrow, it’s Big League Chew sports attire day. Wear your fav sports team apparel. Jack Williams says No Chicago Cubs gear, but Olney Cubs gear and St. Joe Wildcat drip will work just fine.

OTN had some success over the weekend:
- Our Tiger Golf squad competed in Paris. Tiger pats on the back go to Ayden Nealis as he took 6th place overall. Reese Glover grabbed 11th place, Carsyn Ameter took 29th place, Carter Blank finished in 48th place, and Austin Smith claimed 51st place.
- Your RCHS Marching Tigers competed in Robinson Saturday. RCHS won captions for Best Color Guard, and Best Drumline in class 1A. The Marching Tigers took home 1st Place in Class in their class.
- Our Tiger and Lady Tiger Cross Country teams competed in the Olney Invite Saturday. Our Tiger runners took 4th place overall out of 16 teams. Tiger roars go to Quaid Berger as he grabbed 2nd place overall. Judah Dicks took 6th place, Tristin Butler finished in 9th place, Landon Livingston claimed 29th place. Folks, did I mention that these four are Freshmen!! Golly Gee Willickers!! Kadyn Cooley took 60th place overall.
- Our Lady Tiger runners took 5th place out of 15 teams. Tiger shout outs go to Mackenzi Thomas as she finished in 6th place overall. Josie Ginder claimed 20th place, Lily Stevens grabbed 37th place, Karlee Piercefield took 42nd place, and Mallory Kocher finished in 49th place.
- Our Olney Football Tigers grabbed their 4th win on the season Saturday. Gavyn Cothern had 277 yards of total offense and helped out with 6 touchdowns, Dirks Weiler had 78 yards on the ground, 1 touchdown and an interception for a touchdown, Reed Klingler had 2 touchdowns and Ian Pianfetti also had a touchdown. Your Tigers took down Marshall 56 to 21 to remain undefeated on the season.
Tiger good luck roars go to our Tiger and Lady Tiger Golfers as they are on the road to St. Anthony. Our Tiger Soccer squad will lock paws with Harrisburg at the middle school at 5:00 PM.

PRACTICE:
- Keep practicing, folks! The third movement needs to be memorized before Saturday's performance. I know this is the longest movement of the show. It will take some time to get it under our fingers. That being said, you have had the music since June.
- Color guard, you will learn the routine to the third movement next week. This week's focus is on the second movement. Be ready the perform both the first and second movement at Robinson.

Our Tiger Tennis squad took down Fairfield last night 7 to 2. Singles winners consist of McKenna Snider, Me/myself &I, Karlee Bissey, and Ezha Biyok. Doubles winners were Claire Uhl and McKenna Snider, Myself and my partner in crime Karlee Bissey, and Audrey Runyon and Brielle Seiler.
Our Lady Tiger Golfers played well yesterday. Savannah Ferguson placed 2nd overall, Mallory Richardson took 4th place, Katelyn Bookhout grabbed 5th place, Addalyn Runyon and Aubrie Weidner tied for 6th place.
Our Tiger Golf squad took the top spot yesterday against Lawrenceville and Flora. Tiger pats on the back go to Reese Glover and Carsyn Ameter as they tied for 2nd place overall. Ayden Nealis took 4th place, Carter Blank grabbed 8th place, Brody Thomas claimed 21st place, and Austin Smith finished in 22nd place.

Carter Blank and Levi Hefferman claimed 9th place with scores of 51, and Brody Thomas took 11th place with a score of 53.

RCHS MARCHING TIGERS DRUMLINE FUNDRAISER: Friday, September 20th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the RCHS circle drive. There will be a bake sale and t-shirt orders taken that night as well.
Just a reminder that doors are unlocked at the following times for weekday rehearsals:
- Band Room glass doors = 6:45 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Main Entrance (student parking) = 6:50 a.m. until 6:58 a.m.

Teachers, this is a reminder that the child development class will be leaving right at the beginning of OTA today to go on a field trip.

HOMECOMING DANCE GUEST forms are due by Friday. They can be picked up from the counter in the HS office. Make sure to hand it in on time.
Seniors, your picture day is tomorrow. Ladies, you all will wear a shawl in your school picture so you will need to wear a spaghetti strap tank top to keep on underneath it. Gentlemen, you will wear a suit jacket, white button up and tie. Please wear a white t-shirt. Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen, your day will be Wednesday.
One Tiger Nation had a lot of success over the weekend:
- Our Olney Football Tigers took down Lawrenceville Friday night 49 to 7. Gavyn Cothern lead the way with 4 total touchdowns. He had 253 total yards for the game. Dirks Weiler had 107 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, Ian Pianfetti had 98 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Nolan Seals had 9 tackles, and Owen Cycholl had 1 passing touchdown and 1 onside kick recovery. Golly, gee!! I wish I had some players like this on my fantasy football team!!
- The RCHS Marching Tigers participated in two events Saturday. The first event was in Newton for the 50th annual Jasper County Fall Festival parade, in which the Marching Tigers earned Best Drum Major, Best Auxiliary, Best Drumline, and 1st Place in Class 2A of the high school band division. Out of the fifteen participating middle school and high school bands in the parade, the RCHS Marching Tigers were selected as the Grand Champion.

The Marching Tigers also competed in the Sage City Invitational in Monticello, IL that evening, in which the band ranked 6th in Class 2A.

Our Tiger Soccer squad defeated Pinckneyville Saturday 5 to 0. Keagan Ray had 1 goal and 2 assists, Josiah Reynolds had an assist to Joe Hunt, Owen Kocher had 2 goals and 1 assist. Geremiah had 1 goal with Payden Buchanan assisting.
Our Cross Country teams competed Saturday in the First to the Finish in Peoria. Our Lady Tigers finished in 24th place overall out of 56 teams. Tiger pats on the back go to Mackenzi Thomas as she took 48th place overall. Josie Ginder placed 58th, Lily Stevens grabbed 127th place, Karlee Piercefield took 181st place, and Mallory Kocher finished in 263rd place. Our Tiger runners finished in 26th place out of 66 teams. Tiger roars go to Quaid Berger as he finished in 13th place overall. Judah Dicks took 72nd place, Tristin Butler grabbed 95th place, Landon Livingston finished in 210th place, and Kaydn Cooley took 380th place.
We have some GRIT winners to announce this morning. These fine folks need to see Coach VanDyke in the commons. Tiger shout outs go to Zander Schrader, Macy Zerkel, Aubrie Weidner, Owen Kocher, Briley Kocher, Oliver Fehrenbacher, Aylah Voyles, and Marlee Brown.
Tiger good luck wishes go to our Lady Tiger Tennis squad as they are on the road to Charleston this afternoon. Our Tiger golf squad is on the road to Charleston as well.
