LAST POST OF THE 2023 SEASON!

Great job this season, band! There have been challenging moments, and there have been joyous moments. Throughout it all, you kept going and you worked hard. More importantly, we made new friends, new memories, and we created wonderful music. The staff and I are all proud of you, 2023 Marching Tigers!

I am asking one last thing from you folks. Please take note of the very, very tentative schedule for the 2024 marching band season. The summer camps and rehearsals won't change. The game days and competition days likely will shift a little. However, this will still give you a good idea of what the 2024 season will look like.

Students, please pass this information to your parents and guardians, so they can plan accordingly. A finalized schedule will release in July 2024.

1ST TERM 2024: It's hard to say exactly when performances will fall in the 2024 marching band season, but we can predict a rough two month period when performance will occur. There will be 3-4 home varsity football games, an out of town parade, a performance at the City Park, and 5-6 marching band competitions. Anticipate that your Fridays and Saturdays will be busy between August 23, 2024 through October 15th, 2024. That's not to say that all Fridays will have an event within those dates; however, you can expect all, or nearly all, of those Saturdays will have competitions or parades. While not official yet, here are most of the performances you can anticipate in the 2024 season:

Monday, October 16th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. on the practice field rehearsing sets 1-47 with instruments.

Thursday, October 19th from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the stadium rehearsing sets 1-47 with instruments.

PLEASE NOTE: If you signed the form saying you would be present for the practices, please make sure to be there. There has to be no less than 90% of the band at each practice for us to be successful. If the band drops below 90% at either, or both, of those games, we will not march on the last football game. Please be there!

MATTRESS FUNDRAISER SIGNS & FLYERS: The signs and flyers are in! Please grab a sign for your lawn, and a small number of flyers to help advertise. Every bit helps! Proceeds to go help cover the pay for Mr. Vaal, Mr. Weitkamp, and Ms. Bogard. We will also use a portion of the money to start a Winter Guard (6th-12th Grade Color Guard) that will perform at basketball games. This will help make the 2024 RCHS Marching Tigers more successful next season!

Remember, you have to meet or beat 94% by the end of the day Friday to earn your hour lunch. Those classes that do, will receive their one hour lunch next Tuesday.

We have some Little Illini Conference Champs in the house today. Tiger pats on the back go to our Lady Tiger Cross Country Team as they were crowned conference champs yesterday. Your Runnin’ Tigers defeated Robinson by 1 point to claim the title. Mackenzi Thomas claimed 5th place overall, Josie Ginder grabbed 8th place, Lily Stevens finished in 9th place, Briley Kocher took 10th place, and Karlee Piercefield claimed 15th place. McKenzi, Josie, Lily, and Briley were named to the all conference team. Our Tiger runners took 3rd place in the conference meet. Tiger roars go out to Kaeden Davis as he finished in 4th place overall. Carter Seaman took 15th place, Kaydn Cooley claimed 18th place, and Trenton Payne finished in 23rd place. Kaeden was named to the all conference team.

The RCHS Marching Tigers competed at their last marching band competition for the 2023 season! The Marching Tigers competed in the 2023 Marching Eagles Classic in Newton this past Saturday. Your Marching Tigers placed 2nd in Class 4A. Out of a total of sixteen bands that participated in the competition (Classes 1A-4A), the RCHS Marching Tigers placed fifth overall. The drum line scored third out of sixteen competing drum lines. Our drum major, Emma Wells, scored second overall out of all drum majors from all sixteen bands. Congratulations to all RCHS Marching Tigers on a very successful season!
Tiger pats on the back go out to Reese Glover as he competed in state competition over the weekend. Reese finished in a tie for 37th place. Nice shootin’ Reese.
Tiger shout outs to Evie Potter and Clarie Uhl as they are crowned conference doubles champions over the weekend. Mckenna Snider grabbed 2nd place in singles action.
Tiger good luck wishes go out to our cross country squads as they travel to Terre Haute for the Little Illini Conference meet.

FACEBOOK LIVE & IN-PERSON MEETING FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS - We have an upcoming meeting for all program parents on Monday October 9, 2023 at 6pm. We realize that most parents have very busy schedules, but we will be hosting an important upcoming meeting. We have a HUGE fundraiser coming up that we will discuss. It’s our Mattress Sale Fundraiser and many programs like ours have raised a lot of money with this unique fundraiser and it will be a great fundraiser for us! Attending this brief 15 minute meeting will help raise money for our program.
- Our fundraising partner is seeding the fundraiser with $5 for every parent in attendance! This is an easy opportunity to support our program just by sharing a few minutes of your time. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!
- The meeting will be next Monday October 9, 2023, at 6pm at Richland County Performing Arts Center in RCHS.

Students, you will report to blocks 1 through 4 this morning - no OTA or OTE today. Lunch will take place from 12:15 - 12:50. From there, you will report for the parade line up or stay in the gym if you decide not to watch the parade. After the parade, students will be bused from the elementary school back to the high school for dismissal. If you ride a bus home, you are to remain in the commons until 2:50 PM. The dress up theme for tomorrow is extreme spirit day. Please refrain from wearing face paint until the parade if you choose to do so.

Tiger roars go out to our Tiger Soccer squad as they defeated Robinson yesterday 5 to 0. Tiger pats on the back go out to Poalo Ronaldo as he is our new all time leading goal scorer for a single season with 38. He can add to this total tomorrow. Isaac Zwilling scored on a penalty kick, Paydon Buchanan had a goal. Ale Messi netted a goal. Assists were dished out by Aidan Weidner and Petro Cannavaro. Tiger shout outs go to Wyatt Baker as he was a steel curtain last night with 0 goals allowed.
Our Lady Tiger volleyball squad came up a bit short against Robinson last night. Aliyah Tracy had 16 kills, Rylee Bloomer had 30 assists, Abi Mitchell and Aliyah Tracy had 14 digs, and Danielle Brown and Aliyah Tracy had 3 blocks each. Tiger roars go out to our JV squad as they took the victory last night.
The Homecoming game against Paris begins at 7:00 PM tonight. We will find out who our king and queen are during Coronation at Half Time. The dance will begin at 9:30 PM and will end at 11:30 PM. Please enter through the main entrance of the school. If you choose to leave at any point, you will not be permitted to re-enter.

OLNEY FALL FUN FESTIVAL: I regret to say that the RCHS Marching Tigers will not perform at the 2023 Olney Fall Fun Festival. Unfortunately, the band has been scheduled to perform at an earlier time at Eastern IL. University than we have in prior years. Due to this conflict, we are unable to perform at the Olney City Park event. The high school choir, however, will perform at 8:30 a.m., before we depart to Charleston. We simply could not fit a performance from the band and choir without the band being late to EIU.

OTN was on fire last night!! Our athletic squads pulled off a hat trick trifecta!
Tiger roars go out to our Tiger Soccer squad as they defeated T-Town last night 3 to 0. This was T-Town’s second loss this year!! Poalo Ronaldo scored 2 goals and had 1 assist - Ale Messi scored 1 goal and had 1 assist in the win.
Tiger pats on the back go out to our Lady Tiger Volleyball team as they took down Paris last night 25 to 18, 23 to 25, and 25 to 18. Aliyah Tracy and Danielle Brown had 10 kills, Rylee Bloomer had 35 assists, Abbi Mitchell had 2 aces, Danielle Brown had 2 blocks, and our Liberator, Maddie Piercefield had 21 digs. Our JV squad was also victorious last night 25 to 19 and 28 to 26.
Our Lady Tiger Tennis team defeated Centralia last night.

HONORS WIND ENSEMBLE AUDITIONS: Auditions are open! Winds, log into your SmartMusic accounts. Your audition is over a portion of the Sr. ILMEA Scales. Percussion, your audition may be over one of two things: 1) ILMEA Scales like the winds; or 2) the 2023 ILMEA Band Auditions on snare drum and mallets.

OLNEY FALL FUN FESTIVAL: I regret to say that the RCHS Marching Tigers will not perform at the 2023 Olney Fall Fun Festival. Unfortunately, the band has been scheduled to perform at an earlier time at Eastern IL. University than we have in prior years. Due to this conflict, we are unable to perform at the Olney City Park event. The high school choir, however, will perform at 8:30 a.m., before we depart to Charleston. We simply could not fit a performance from the band and choir without the band being late to EIU.

Homecoming week continues! Movie night last night was a huge success. Speaking of the movie last night, did you know that Slimer isn’t ever called Slimer throughout the movie?? He was actually referred to as Onionhead by the crew of the original film.
Tonight is the boys volleyball game! After the girls varsity game, watch the junior boys take on the senior boys in volleyball action. The winner gets the privilege to lose to our tremendous faculty squad. Theme for the night is NEON!

The yearbook class put together an awesome Homecoming photo backdrop upstairs outside the Library. Check it out and use it as a photobooth throughout the week!
The dress up theme tomorrow is Barbie and Ken Day. Wear pink or dress up like either of the two superstars. I cannot wait to see what Mr. Music wears.

Tiger good luck roars go out to OTN this afternoon. Our Lady Tiger Tennis squads will lock paws with Centralia at 4:00 PM, our Tiger Soccer team will battle T-Town at RCMS. The first kick is slated for 4:30 PM, and our Lady Tiger Volleyball teams will take on Paris tonight. F/S is at 5:00 PM and JV is scheduled for 6:00 PM. The theme for tonight is neon night.

ASSIGNMENT DUE TODAY: Complete the AAR for the Sage City Invitational, which you will find on www.rccu1.schoology.net. At least one recording from a music judge, and one recording from a visual visual judge. Fill out at least three things we should continue doing (things we do well), and at least three things on which we need to improve. The assignment is due Monday at 11:59 p.m. I pushed the deadline back a school day to give you more time. Please let me know should anyone have problems accessing the recordings.
MOVE THE FINAL PERFORMANCE? Would anyone have a conflict if I move the Final Performance to Saturday, October 14th? If so, what times would you be unavailable? I am considering moving the performance because we wouldn't have a rehearsal for four days leading up to the Final Performance. Also, we would have short rehearsals on October 12th and 13th to accomodate final exams.

Tonight is the outdoor movie at 7:00pm in the circle drive/bus lane! Bring a chair or a blanket to sit on the lawn and watch Ghostbusters. The movie is free and JROTC will be selling snacks.

Attention - Best Buddies members, there will be a meeting this morning right after announcements in the commons area in OTA.
Tiger roars go out to our volleyball squad as they participated in the Troy tournament over the weekend. Our Spikin Lady Tigers grabbed a couple of wins defeating Springfield Luthern 25 to 17 and East St. Louis 25 to 17 and 25 to 8. Throughout tournament play, Aliyah Tracy had 36 kills, our liberator Maddie Piercefield had 11 aces and 52 digs, Rylee Bloomer had a whopin’ 103 assists, and Danielle Brown had 5 blocks. Aliyah Tracy was also selected to the All-Tournament team.
Our Lady Tiger Cross Country team ran in the Nike Twilight Saturday. They finished in 6th place out of 27 teams. Mackenzi Thomas took 12th place, Josie Ginder grabbed 38th place, Lily Stevens finished in 74th place, and Karlee Piercefield claimed 78th place. There were 358 runners total.
Our Tiger Cross Country squad placed 29th out of 42 teams in this event. Kaeden Davis finished in 78th place, Carter Seaman took 204th place, Kaydn Cooley claimed 210th place, and Trenton Payne grabbed 212th place. There were 435 runners in this event.
The RCHS Marching Tigers competed at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston Saturday. The band placed 4th in their class, and earned Best Percussion in Class 2A. Out of a total of twenty-two bands that participated in the marching band competition (Classes 1A-6A) the Tigers had the seventh highest rating for percussion, outperforming percussion sections with bands twice our size. Out of five bands within our class, the Marching Tigers placed 4th. The drumline and front ensemble scored second out of thirteen competing percussion sections in classes 1A-3A.
Tiger pats on the back go out to our FFA Forestry Team as they won the State Contest on Saturday! Isaac Zwilling took home 1st place! Owen Kocher was close behind in 2nd, Carter Anderson in 6th, Kylie Kocher in 8th, and Natalie Zwilling in 12th.
Tiger good luck roars go out to OTN this afternoon. We have two Tiger golfers participating in Sectional action in Mt. Carmel. Tiger good luck wishes go to Ayden Nealis and Reese Glover today. Our Tiger soccer squad will be on the road to Effingham and our Freshman/Sophomore Football team will play in Mt. Carmel.
