A message from our athletic director, Coach Music:

"Tonight's basketball game vs. Flora is cancelled.  This game will not be made up due to IHSA quarterfinal games starting on Saturday.  We are going to hold a Senior Night/Community Night on Monday @ 7 pm in Ron Herrin Gym.  We will recognize our Senior Basketball Players and Cheerleaders.  We will also recognize the Girls Basketball Team on their season and the middle school program on their state run.  Lastly, the cheer team will perform their routine that night as well.  Please let me know if you have any questions regarding what we are planning for Monday night."

Congratulations to those that were selected to participate in the LIC Pep Band Conference on Saturday, January 25th, 2020! You may find the roster of participating students listed below, as well as the assignments for the LIC Pep Bands.

The LIC Conference is held at Paris High School this year. Rehearsal begins at 1:00 p.m. The call-time for that day is 10:00 am in the RCHS rehearsal hall. Buses arrive at 10:00 am at RCHS exit 21.  We depart for Paris, IL at 10:10 am. Lunch is at the Paris McDonald's when we pull into town, so please bring money or a sack lunch. We arrive at the host school no later than 12:45 pm. Rehearsals begin at 1 pm.

Band 1 & Band 2 perform before games and during all breaks. Pizza & drinks are provided between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m at no cost to the students. Concessions is also available, for those that wish to bring cash.

Performance attire:

• Jeans
• Tennis shoes with socks
• Department shirt
• Basketball band jersey (unless all have a department shirt)

Required items:

• Instrument
• Valve oil or slide grease
• Extra reeds
• Money for dinner at concessions
• Jacket or coat

Rehearsal locations:
Band 1 (stage)
Band 2 (band room)

Each band will perform before and at half-time of two games:
Band 1 will play the first and 3rd games.
Band 2 will play at the second and fourth games.

Historically, the game times are as follows (take with a grain of salt):
Game 1 = 3pm
Game 2 = 4:30pm
Game 3 = 6pm
Game 4 = 7:30pm

I anticipate a return time to Richland County High School at around 11pm.

Illinois High School Association has selected the Richland County High School Pep Band to play at the 2019 Boys Basketball State Tournament at the Peoria Civic Center on Saturday, March 9th. The 40-piece Pep Band will comprise of the Honors Wind Ensemble and select members from the Symphonic Band. The band was selected from an audition process that included the top pep bands throughout the state of Illinois.

The tentative pep band roster may be found at the bottom of this post. Members of the Honors Wind Ensemble were selected, plus seniors in the Symphonic Band, and select underclassmen to fill out a few sections within the pep band. Unfortunately, due to the restriction on band size, not everyone in the Symphonic Band is able to participate.

Uniform: blue jeans, tennis shoes, department shirt, band hockey jerseys. Students may wear the department sweatshirt.

Packing List: money (lunch & dinner), coat, instruments, & extra reeds. OPTIONAL: pillow and a blanket for the bus ride. We will make brief stops on the way to and from Peoria for restroom breaks.

After consulting with Mr. Wheeler & Mr. Anselment, I have decided to cancel the band performances for the January 3rd, and January 5th games. I have also talked to Mr. Weitkamp about a potential performance for select choir students to perform the national anthem during those games.

The band performs on Friday, January 4th for the Marshall vs. RCHS basketball game at Richland County High School. This is now a combined performance between the Orange and Black Bands. Please contact Mr. Jones at [email protected] or via Remind101 should you have an unavoidable conflict with January 4th.

The reason for combining the bands for the January 4th game, and removing the bands' participation for the January 3rd and 5th games is to allow the students more time to enjoy the winter break. The band performs with the dance teams at boys basketball games. The dance team is performing on the January 4th, which is why the band is performing on January 4th.
